RACE REPORT: BUDD'S CREEK NATIONAL

Ryan Dungey continued his mission to prove that he is the fastest and most consistent rider both indoors and outdoors for the 2010 season. Brett Metcalfe grabbed the hole-shot  on his Factory Connection Honda in moto one but was passed by Team Red-Bull / Honda’s Andrew Short. Shorty was on rails in the first moto and lead the whole race to capture his first moto win of the season. Mike Alessi battled his way to a hard fought second place ahead of Ryan Dungey who suffered a first moto crash and rode much of the race without goggles. Dungey was able to fight his way into the top three by the end of the moto.

Andrew Short grabbed the holeshot in moto two but did not have the energy to hold on to it for long. Dungey quickly worked his way into the lead position. Chad Reed was the next person to pass Short and took over second place. Short was also caught by a group of riders that included Brett Metcalfe, Ben Townley and JGR’s Josh Grant. The trio passed Short and continued to battle all the way to the end of the moto. Townley and Grant passed each other several times before Townley was able to secure the third position. At the end of the moto Dungey was 1st, Reed 2nd, Townley 3rd, Josh Grant 4th and Andrew Short 5th.  ONE Industries Tommy Hahn battled to an 11th place finish in the second moto after dislocating his shoulder in the first moto.

The over-all results for Budd’s Creek in the 450 class are Ryan Dungey in 1st with 3-1 moto scores, Andrew Short 2nd with 1-5 moto scores and Chad Reed in 3rd with 4-2 moto scores.

The 250 class saw its 4th different winner in 4 events! Monster Energy/ Pro-Circuit / Kawasaki’s Dean Wilson made up for the previous weeks mistake by capturing his first ever over-all win at Budd’s Creek with 4-1 moto scores. Christophe Pourcel grabbed the holeshot in moto one followed by Eli Tomac and Max Anste. Tomac made a few mistakes that cost him a chance at the podium and fell back to 10th place by the end of the moto. Anste also suffered a few mistakes while Dean Wilson over-came a bad start and battled from about mid-pack early in the moto to finish 4th. The 1st moto results had Pourcel in 1st, Tyla Rattray in 2nd and Geico Powersports Justin Barcia in 3rd.  ONE rider Blake Baggett was unable to compete after suffering a compound fracture of his upper arm in the morning practice.  We wish him a speedy recovery back.

Moto two for the 250 class saw Wil Hahn grab the hole-shot followed by Wilson, Barcia and Pourcel. The lead pack stayed the same for a long time with Tyla Rattray joining the group after coming from about 6th place at the start of the moto. Pourcel went down on the very last lap and slipped back to sixth place. The moto ended with Wilson in 1st, Barcia in 2nd and Tyla Rattray in 3rd. The summer heat was a big factor again this weekend with only the strongest riders able to keep pace all moto long.

The over-all results for the 250 class found Wilson in 1st with 4-1 moto scores, Justin Barcia in 2nd with 3-2 moto scores and Tyla Rattray in 3rd with 2-3 moto scores.
