All the weather reports had doom and gloom predicted for the LA SX, but mother nature held off and gave us a great track on Saturday night.
The real news of the night was that 2 ONE Industries alumni, Trey Canard and Ryan Morais, were seriously injured at the start of the 450 Main. Both were carted off and the race was restarted. Both suffered significant injuries to their back/ neck, but are expected to make full recoveries. Best wishes to both of them and their families.
Justin Brayton- Justin, unfortunately, had a terrible night. After setting 5th fastest qualifying time in the shortened practice/ qualifying session he did not manage to qualify in his heat race after getting a horrific start. In the LCQ he seemed on his way to a runaway victory after a lap and a half but crashed and was unable to mount any sort of a comeback to make the main. Knowing Justin this will not sit well with him and he will work harder than ever to make sure this does not happen again.
Team Rockstar Suzuki- Jason Anderson and Martin Davalos had the best night of the season. Martin Davalos won his heat race beating eventual race winner Eli Tomac. Martin also holeshot the main event before eventually finishing in 9th. Jason Anderson rode well all night. A crash in the heat race sent him to the LCQ which he won running away. In the main he rode solid and ended up in a season best 5th place. Great work Guys!
Team Monster Kawasaki- The Monster Kawi guys had and up and down night. Meaning that sometimes they were up(right) and other they were down(on the ground). Jake Weimer and Ryan Villopoto went 1-2 in the second heat race of the night but both spent significant time on the ground in the main. Jake was running up front and had an altercation with another rider and went to the back of the pack fighting back for a 11th place finish. Ryan Villopoto on the other hand started from the back after a crash and worked his way up to 4th. This is the second straight week RV2 has come from way back to finish in the top 5.
Team Geico Honda- Eli Tomac got his first win of the season passing Martin Davalos early in the main and never looking back. Kevin Windham battled to a 9th place finish in the main.
Team Yoshimura Suzuki- Brett Metcalf cracked the top 5 for the first time this year with a solid 5th.
Privateers- Only Billy Laninovich made the main but Cody Gilmore and Bruce Rutherford both rode well and gave it their all. Billy once again transferred to the main from his heat race, got a solid start and improved his finish position. Each week Billy has been moving up 2 spots (14th, 12th, 10th). Great Job Billy!
