Monster Energy SuperX series held in Sydney


Jay Marmont and Brenden Harrison have taken the Silverware in the Pro Open and Pro Lites classes at the third round of the 2011 Monster Energy SuperX series held at Campbelltown Stadium in Sydney's outer suburbs.

In front of a healthy crowd on what can only be described as perfect conditions for Supercross racing, Marmont who this week became the proud farther to his son Jax, topped off a perfect week by winning his first main event for the season and edging himself closer to that elusive Supercross championship trophy he is chasing.

Marmont's day started off on a good note qualifying fastest before also winning his heat race and top eight shoot against team mate Jake Moss giving himself the all important first gate pick for the main event which was contested in a three , seven lap race back to back format.

Receline Pirelli Suzuki's Lawson Bopping was able to put the first and only blemish on the Marmont's night by winning the first of the three Moto's, although Jay in a close second. The Final two races saw the CDR Rockstar Yamaha rider back to his very best and winning the remaining to finals to clinch the round win.

 "It was so good to go out there today and race with all of the emotions I had coming into the round. It feels great to finally get a win and I'm feeling really positive about the rest of the championship." Marmont said.

Huge thanks to the CDR Yamaha team for all their hard work. It was tough seeing Jake go down on the final lap though and I hope he is alright and back out there racing next weekend," he concluded.

Bopping, after winning the first race in the main event, had a tough time of things in the second race with the Canberra based rider working his way through the field after an early race crash. The Third moto saw him get off to a mid pack start and work his way through to fourth place which was enough to give him second overall for the night.

Rounding out the podium for the evening was JDR Motorex KTM rider Tye Simmonds, the win not only placed Simmonds on the box for the second time this year after he won round one in Melbourne, his third place for the evening also put him back in front in the championship standings taking the Red plate back from Daniel McCoy, by just the solitary point after McCoy finished the night in fourth place.

In fifth place was Axis Motorsport Honda rider Cody Mackie who took the holeshot and lead early in the first of the three race final's before a mistake relegated him to the back of the field , Mackie was able to rebound with a couple of good rides in the final two races.

Following behind Mackie were Monster energy Kawasaki rider Billy Mackenzie, Berry Sweet Lucas Oils Honda rider Craig Anderson and Jake Moss who would have placed higher if not for a sicking crash near the end of the third final. American rider Chris Blose aboard his Hart & Huntington Kawasaki finished ninth and Ryan Marmont round out the top ten aboard this JDR Motorex KTM.
 
In the Pro Lites Brenden Harrison broke through for his maiden Supercross victory in what was a very popular victory. The well liked JDR Motorex KTM rider sat atop the lap charts after qualifying and showed in the in main event that the outright pace he had early in the day was here to stay.

Harrison finished outside of the top three in the first of the triple header format, however was able to find himself with a clear track at the start of the second race by racing himself clear into the first corner while the majority of the field got tangled together with some top contenders crashing including Kirk Gibbs and Dean Ferris.

Harrison rode with a cool head in the third and final race of the evening finishing in third place, giving him just enough points to take the round win ahead of Carton Dry, Thor Honda rider Gavin Faith who finished the night in Second place and Luke Styke in third place.

"I am just so ecstatic to be up here and get the win. It has been a long time coming and it's so good that all of my hard work and the team's have finally paid off. I just want to keep my head down and go racing and I am confident I can be at the pointy end of the championship standings," said Harrison.

Styke had finished the night on equal points to series leader Matt Moss but was awarded the podium position due to his higher place finish in the final race of the night, with Matt Moss having bike problems in the first corner which left him at the back of the field, however a gallant rider seen him climb back to tenth spot for the race.

Rounding out the top five for the evening was Steven Clarke aboard his Motul Pirelli Suzuki, Clarke edging out Robbie Marshal who was a Pro Lites heat winner earlier in the evening.

The under 19s class was won by Errol Wills who continues to dominate proceedings in the development class in 2011. Wills did not have it all his own way with South Australian privateer Mitch Norris hole shotting the main event on his YZ 250 two stroke and leading the first few laps before Willis was able to make the race winning move into the lead.

Errol was in a rush after the race to leave the venue and head to the hospital to check on competitor and close friend Jake Emanuelli who suffered from a nasty crash in the closing stages of the Under 19s race.

The final step on the box was taken by Hart and Huntington sponsored rider Cory Lucas, after winning his heat last weekend in Wollongong before the main event last round was cancelled Corey was able to show that last round was no fluke and rode another solid race.

In the Michelin junior Development series it was Yamaha mounted Joel Dinsdale taking the win ahead of Hayden Mellross and Kurt Waterman.



Round four of the 2011 Monster Energy SuperX series moves to Maitland next Saturday the 13th of November.
